Owner and Chef Donald Washington, a native of Eastern South Carolina, has perfected the slow-roasted smoking technique that he learned from the old-timers while growing up in Hemingway, S.C. “Slow-w-w roasting and smoking” is the old-timer process used to bring the hearty flavor of hickory and the “falling off the bone” tenderness of Southern Que’s BBQ. Don only uses hickory hard wood in his customized smoker to bring out the heartiest country-style flavor and deliver a truly delicious menu of Eastern Carolina-style BBQ. Signature dishes include pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken that melts in your mouth, smoked turkey, and Southern Que’s new beef short ribs.
Don’s vinegar-based sauces originate from the Great Pee Dee area of South Carolina, and date back several hundred years to Colonial times. One sauce is made for pork, turkey, and chicken, and the other is reserved specifically for beef. Also available are southern-style sides like potato salad, cole slaw, candied yams, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, and corn bread muffins. Unlike other BBQ restaurants, Southern Que offers takeout service, an outside eating area for the spring and summer, pig-roasting services, catering for special occasions, along with our online store.
